With the winter months behind us, I’m excited to share with you our summer schedule of free, outdoor activities! This year, we’re bringing back classics including Movies Under the Stars, Concerts and Theater in the Park, family fun activities, and the NJ Symphony Orchestra. And, we’re expanding other popular programming including Fitness in the Park!

Fitness in the Park

I’m thrilled to announce that we expanded our free, Fitness in the Park classes from three to six locations!  Now, you can enjoy a great workout at our new Southwest Park, Northwest Pop-up Park, and Pier C Park, in addition to Pier A, Maxwell Park, and under the 14th Street Viaduct. This is a fun way to get a workout and try out some of the great fitness classes offered throughout our City, including yoga, kickboxing, pilates, crossfit, and more.

Movies Under the Stars

Always one of my favorite activities, come grab a blanket and enjoy the best backdrop to watch a movie in the tri-state area at Pier A Park! Thanks to your input, we’re offering new movies including Lady Bird, The Post and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and family friendly options including Ferdinand and Coco. Click here for the schedule.

Theatre in the Park

We’re offering a number of theatrical performances this summer at Sinatra Park and Elysian Park! Come bring the whole family for Shakesphere in the Park, as well as Storybook Theatre, a kid favorite where books come alive through song and dance.

(While not connected to our Summer Fun programming, Mile Square Theater is hosting its signature show – the 7th Inning Stretch from May 18-20 at its location in Hoboken. Check out MST’s popular hit!)

Concerts and Music

The NJ Symphony Orchestra is back for another year at Maxwell Park! And, we have some talented local performers for our concerts at Sinatra Park, including our Sinatra Idol contest, and tribute bands for Paul Simon, Tom Petty and the Beatles. We’ll also be adding music performances at our new Southwest Park ampitheater, details to be announced soon.

Family Fun at Shipyard Park

One of my favorite outdoor activities to do with my kids, our family fun nights uptown at Shipyard Park is always a great hit! Come check out kid favorite performers including the Fuzzy Lemons, Ron Albanese (Polka Dot), Preschool of Rock, and more.

Kayaking and Paddling

Looking to enjoy our waterfront with some fun activities? Our Hoboken Cove Boathouse offers free kayaking and paddling each weekend beginning June 2!  I can tell you firsthand that this is a really fun time – come bring a friend and enjoy the waterfront view! Thank you to the volunteers at the Hoboken Boathouse for organizing these public events.

I want to personally extend my thanks to Director Leo Pellegrini, Geri Fallo, and the Division of Cultural Affairs for their efforts on developing among the most robust fitness & cultural affairs summer programming throughout the State. I hope you’ll get a chance to enjoy the fun.

Best,

Ravi
